Thank you for visiting The Farmer’s Lamp. I’m Rhonda, a Southern farm girl transplanted to the wilderness of Northern Idaho. I come from at least 8 generations of homesteaders or farmsteaders as I like to say it.
I love going barefoot in the garden, working with our animals, and all things farming. Because life is often chaotic, stressful, and sometimes painful The Farmer’s Lamp wants to be a source of encouragement, information, direction, and strength for all those seeking to live a more self-sustaining lifestyle.
We live as close to nature as is possible for us in a modern world. We use organic, non-gmo practices based on the wisdom and skills my grandparents taught me, with a little modern ingenuity mixed in.
I grew up surrounded by great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts, cousins, and of course the farm. My grandfather and grandmother invested their knowledge and love of simple farmstead life in me. The homesteading lifestyle is not just what we do, it’s who we are. It’s in our blood. I hope to leave these same life lessons and principles in my own children and grandchildren.
Our family has always been attached to the self-sufficient lifestyle of a farmer. My husband and I were both blessed to come from generations of farmsteaders.
I home schooled the boys and they both graduated from college with dual degrees. The boys are obviously grown. They are living in Mississippi and Japan doing their own thing, as children should do.
The Farmer’s Lamp was started because so many people were asking us questions, seeking help, and just generally interested in how we live. Having been raised on a farm, we often take for granted that everyone knows the things a farmer knows. But if I were in New York, I would have no idea about how to take a subway and all that entails.
It’s wrong to assume everyone knows what we know or that we know what they know. In fact, isn’t it marvelous how we can always learn from one another?
We have taken up a lesson my grandfather taught me, “There’s as many ways of gettin’ a farm job done as there’s farmers. Ya gotta be willing to listen, help, and learn from ’em, even if it’s just to see what not to do.”
Sharing old-timey, down to earth, common sense knowledge and experience, while striving to offer encouragement, direction, and strength to anyone seeking to live a more self-sustaining lifestyle is the goal and purpose of The Farmer’s Lamp.
Please feel free to Contact Me. We will do our very best to assist, listen, encourage, or shed light in the right direction.
Safe and Happy Journey,
Rhonda and The Pack
